Find out the reasons why former Auckland crime barrister Eb Leary was not allowed to practice law again - read Christopher Harder’s www.lawyermeup.com website.
Mr Leary – who was struck off by the Court of Appeal in April 1987 in the wake of his association with Mr Asia drugs baron the late Alexander Sinclair, also known as Terry Clark – failed in his October bid to be re-admitted.
After nearly twenty years outside the legal profession Edward Poulter Leary, 61, asked the New Zealand Law Practitioners’ Disciplinary Tribunal for the chance to practice law again.
His application for re-admission was supported by one retired High Court judge, the chief district court judge, five other district court judges, a large number of Queen’s Counsel, many other senior lawyers and business people.
But the five members of the tribunal were unanimous that they were not satisfied Mr Leary was a fit and proper person to be restored to the roll of barristers and solicitors.
Mr Leary is understood to be considering an appeal.
The reasons for the New Zealand Law Practitioners’ Disciplinary Tribunal’s decision in the Leary case can be found on Christopher Harder’s www.lawyermeup.com website.
