Why Can't People Give This Guy A Break?

Caseload knows what it is like to live in a glass house surrounded by shattered panes so he has some sympathy for John Bowie, publisher of global online legal and business news service LawFuel.com, and recent National Business Review contributor, who describes himself as a former lawyer and journalist. Mr Bowie was a former lawyer of accused fraudster Anita Faisandier who gave evidence that helped convict her in 2000 on a series of “cheque kiting” fraud charges involving about $40 million. He claimed in court he was one of the glamorous Ms Faisandier’s victims, but was himself convicted of fraud-related charges, and disbarred. Mr Bowie told Caseload his skeletons are on the front porch rather than the cupboard as a result of those dark days. He says there’s no question some of the charges he faced could have been successfully resisted – including the Faisandier charges following what he describes as “a reign of terror” unleashed upon his practice – but there were other charges that could not. It’s a long story and Mr Bowie took his medicine. Since 2001 he has run a website for lawyers in what was described in 2003 as proving an international hit. Why are people bringing up this unfortunate business now when so much water has passed beneath the bridge and everyone has moved on? Posted August 8, 2006
